University Of British Columbia

The UBC Thunderbird Sailing Team is a sport club at UBC and has the unique chance to compete in both the CISCA and ICSA conferences within Canada and the U.S. The practice season begins after tryouts on the second weekend of September with competition season beginning in early October continuing to June with a break from late November to late January. They have regattas in California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Ontario! They train at the Jericho Sailing Centre located on English Bay in Vancouver, BC about three times a week as well as weekly gym sessions on campus with a roster of 30 athletes. They have continued to podium at the CICSA Fleet Race Nationals for the past four years, and have continued to qualify to ICSA Semi-Nationals for either Women’s or Co-Ed the past three years in a row. In 2017 they will be sending a team to Arzon, France to compete in the 49th EDHEC Sailing Cup. The team is comprised of four student executives as well as one coach. They work closely with University of British Columbia’s Sport Club administrators to continue to grow and develop the team to the best of their abilities.
